Government of Zambia

Zambia is a unitary republican state with the Executive, Legislature and the Judiciary operating as autonomous organs of Government.

The President is the head of the Executive and he is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. He appoints his Vice President and members of the Cabinet. The current President of the Repubblic is Mr. Levy Patrick Mwanawasa, S.C. The Vice President is Mr. Rupiah Bwezani Banda.

The Legislature is the National Assembly or Parliament and is led by the Speaker who is elected by Members of Parliament.

The Judiciary, headed by the Chief Justice, comprises the Supreme Court, the High Court and the Subordinate Courts.
