Flights

Zambia has four International Airports: Lusaka, Livingstone, Mfuwe (South Luangwa National Park), and Ndola.

International Airlines flying to Zambia

Currently British Airways, South African Airways, Kenya Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Air Malawi, Nationwide Airlines, Inter Air, Comair, Regional Air, and Air Zimbabwe.

Scheduled Domestic flights: with Zambian Airways are available to South Luangwa National Park, Livingstone, and the Copperbelt. Air Charters are available to many other destinations.

Climate

There are three main seasons in Zambia: November to April: warm and wet with occasional thunderstorms, May to August: cool and dry days, cold at night and early morning, and September to October: warm to hot and dry.

Clothing and Accessories to carry

For walking safaris, it is recommended to wear light neutral colours such as brown, beige, and khaki. Bright colours are discouraged as they easily alarm animals. It is also recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes, a warm jacket or sweater for evenings and early morning, and a wide brimmed hat. Nylon water sandals are recommended for water activities. Smart/casual is accepted in the evenings.

Accessories to take with you may include camcorders, cameras, binoculars, sun-screen, insect repellant, sunglasses, a torch/flashlight. Other items may include spare memory cards, spare batteries, and plenty of film if necessary.

Health

All National Parks require malaria prophylaxis. Visitors should check with their doctors on what medicine they should take against malaria and concerning immunization requirements.

Camping

Good camping facilities are available in most areas.

Currency

Currency: Kwacha (K). Some outlets accept major currencies (US dollars, Euros, Pounds), and major credit cards such as Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club and American Express. Find out from your travel agent for other acceptable credit cards and travellers cheques. ATMs and Bureau de Change are available in major towns. Banks open from 08.45 to 14.30, Monday to Friday and 08.45 to 11.00 on the first and last Saturdays of the month.

Vat and Duty Free

Value Added Tax (VAT) is added in the marked price of most goods and is currently set at 17.5%. Very small quantities of cigarettes, bottles of spirits and wines and perfume may be taken into the country without incurring duty. Check with your travel agent for exact allowed quantities.

Souvenirs may be exported without restrictions, but game trophies such as tooth, bone, horn, shell, claw, skin, hair, feather, or other durable items are subject to export permits.

Language

English is the official language and most Zambians speak it fluently.
