FCM Motors Zimbabwe says consumers should expect something unique once the company opens up a showroom for brand-new Volkswagen vehicles.
FCM Motors, authorised dealers of Volkswagen in Zimbabwe, are planning on setting up a branch in Lusaka from August 1, with a view to tap into a lucrative market in the automobile industry.
FCM sales and marketing officer Maxwell Mutanda said the company was attracted to the Zambian market and revealed that plans were underway to open up a showroom to offer a full range of services, including sales and spare parts.
“From August 1, we should be in operation. I cannot deny the size and strength of our competitors but that does not mean we cannot participate in the market,” Mutanda said in an interview in Lusaka.
He said FCM was determined to make its mark on Zambia’s automobile industry.
“Volkswagen is a great brand and we are very much married to the brand and the African continent. We are here for the people and the brand is a people’s company so people should expect what you would get from German engineering. You will be looking at a price premium on our products and the entry level vehicle will set you back at about K120,000 – this is the Polo, which is a hatchback and is also available in a Sedan. So we offer everything,” he said.
And he said another factor that attracted the firm to Lusaka was the affordable vehicle finance that had favourable terms for first-time buyers on the market.
“One of the encouraging things about the Zambian market is there is a lot on offer when it comes to vehicle finance. We are partnering with several banks in the market such as Stanbic Zambia and FNB and any others offering vehicle finance, so people really should consider sending in applications because vehicle finance is available for everybody,” said Mutanda.
